Why Performing Arts?

Performing allows students to develop their creativity, verbal and non-verbal skill, an understanding of another person’s perspective, and an appreciation for the arts. Performing empowers students to communicate in a variety of ways, and goes beyond spoken language

to communicate creatively. From performing, students can build an understanding of their community, the environment, and their feelings and emotions. It gives them the opportunity to work in groups and problem solve as they put together a performance piece.

Performing is an active and reflective process. Students are given the opportunity

to reflect on their work and the work of others as well as being actively involved in creating and performing.

I try to provide students with a safe environment that is both challenging and stimulating. Whenever possible we make links to a grade level’s current Unit of Inquiry.
