Elisa Wright

¡Hola! My name is Elisa Wright, but my students call me “Maestra Elisa” or just "Maestra." I am one of the Spanish teachers here at Bancroft Elementary School.  I work part-time at Bancroft on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays teaching Hi5, Third, Fourth, and Fifth.  On the other days, you can find me helping Spanish speaking families at a local hospital for children.

Before coming to Bancroft, I spent time traveling the world. I always worked at jobs where I could use my Spanish language skills. You will find they can be very useful in many work settings. I worked hiring and helping employees for several businesses and then I decided I wanted to teach. I taught English language skills to adults, and trained them to do their jobs. I taught at a bilingual elementary school, 4th and 5th grade Spanish for a suburban district, and have worked as a Spanish language interpreter for many years.

I received a BA in Linguistics from the Paracollege  St. Olaf College, studied Translation and Interpreting at the University of Minnesota and completed a Spanish K-12 teaching license at St. Mary's University.

Before I came to Bancroft to teach Spanish in 2019, I taught a summer session years early before the building was air conditioned. Despite the heat, it was one of the best jobs I ever had. I loved meeting and working with the students that year and I feel lucky to continue to be here working in the same community again.
