Bancroft is an authorized IB World School offering the Primary Years Programme (PYP).

Some highlights of the IB-PYP you will find here at Bancroft:

  • We have a school-wide curriculum framework called the Programme of Inquiry.  You will find this posted outside of the office and in the hallway of each grade level cluster.  You can find it on our web-site as well under the tab "Our Programme of Inquiry."  The Programme of Inquiry includes the units that each grade experiences under the six themes of the PYP.
  • Teachers meet collaboratively to write, implement, and reflect on units of inquiry. Grades one through five have six units and High 5 and kindergarten have four. The units are based on concepts which build on each other from one year to the next.  The student experiences traditional subject areas (reading, writing, science and social studies) while in the units. Teachers provide learning experiences that encourage students to wonder and seek understanding of what they are learning.  We connect their prior knowledge to new learning which in turn leads to new wonderings!
  •  We celebrate the Learner Profile! The Learner Profile is central to the PYP.  The profile is a set of attributes that students in the PYP acquire. The PYP develops the whole person while emphasizing intellectual, personal, emotional and social growth.  Because the PYP focuses on the whole person, our students will grow in becoming active, responsible citizens and the Learner Profiles helps us to obtain this goal.  It permeates our life here at Bancroft!  You will see it posted on the walls of our hallways and classrooms and most importantly, you will hear it as students and teachers point out how we are living out the Learner Profile on a daily basis!  Ask your child how he/she models the  Learner Profile at home and at school!

 IB learners strive to be:
