ATTENDANCE

Did you know that 2 absences a month is considered chronic absence? It adds up to 18 days of the school year, the equivalent of a month of instruction. To get all of the instruction time we need for your child, we need your help. Please make getting to school on time, every day, a priority. Set a regular bed-time that allows for the recommended 9-11 hours of sleep that first graders need. We don’t want your child to fall behind in school or get discouraged.  Please ensure that your child attends school every day and arrives on time. Here are a few practical tips to help support regular attendance:

1. Make sure your children keep a regular bedtime (I suggest no later then 8pm for 1st graders)

2. Establish a morning routine.

3. Lay out clothes and pack backpacks the night before.

4. Ensure your children go to school every day unless they are truly sick.

5. Talk to teachers and counselors for advice if your children feel anxious about going to school.

If your child must be absent, please call the attendance desk at 612-668-3555.

FOLDER and NEWSLETTER

Every Thursday, we will send home important papers and any unfinished work. Please check this folder and send back any forms and the folder on the next school day. Grade level newsletters will go home approximately bi-weekly. Talk with your child about what is in the folder, what they are learning, and what they do at school each day. Incomplete work does not mean incomplete learning from your student. Consider this extra practice, to be used as you wish.

BUS TAGS, PICKUP and TRANSPORTATION

I will be attaching a bus tag to your child’s backpack. It is SO important that your child brings his or her backpack to school every day. It is school policy not to send a child to a different after-school location based on the child’s word, so you must contact the office or me directly if there are changes. You can contact the office at 612-668-3550 or me directly as soon as possible when you know of a change! If your child usually takes the bus, but you are planning to pick her/him up, please call the office before 2:00 pm and plan to sign your child out.

WEATHER and RECESS

Students at Bancroft go outside for 30 minutes everyday for recess. The only exception to this is if it is below zero, a heat advisory, or if it is raining. Please check the weather daily to plan and dress accordingly. Please label your child’s items with their full name (backpack, jacket, mittens, hat, sweatshirt, snowpants, boots, etc.), so that if they are lost, they can easily be returned!

BIRTHDAYS

Birthdays are so special to children. We will gladly sing and celebrate your child’s birthday if he or she wishes. Many children like to bring treats, however, the district’s and Bancroft’s policy is that no outside food can be brought in to share. If you wish to bring something special for the class, you are invited to send a non-food treat such as pencils, erasers, or a book to share with the class.

BOOK ORDERS

I will occasionally put Scholastic book order forms in your folders. There is no pressure to purchase books from these but it is a great way to buy discounted books and build your home library. If you go online you will need our class code: MG9YQ
