Families have the option for their students to return to in-person learning in February for PreK-5th Grade.

Dear Bancroft Families,

On January 8th, families received an email confirming that Minneapolis Public Schools is planning to transition to full in-person learning starting on Monday, February 8 for our High 5 and Kindergarten students, followed by our 1st and 2nd grade students on Wednesday, February 10. Students will attend classes on-site five days a week. Below are some important dates to consider.

Friday, January 29

     • No School for students, Record Keeping Day

February 1-5

     • No School grades PK-5, Teacher transition and planning days

Monday, February 8

  • High 5 and Kindergarten return to in-person learning
  • Grades 1-5 remain in Distance Learning


Wednesday, February 10 - Friday, February 12

  • Grades 1 and 2 return to in-person learning
  • High 5 and K remain in-person learning
  • Grades 3-5 remain in Distance Learning


Monday, February 22

  • Grades 3-5 return to in-person learning 
  • All elementary grade levels on site for in-person learning


Governor Tim Walz has mandated that each district must offer families the option to continue with distance learning even if schools return to in-person learning. This means that depending on staff availability, your students could have a different teacher in either model. We will do our best to minimize change for our students and families. However, for us to accommodate our families that are opting for continued Distance Learning, there will inevitably be some impact. We do not have this specific staffing information yet, but will let you know as soon as we do.

Please take some time to complete the Family Survey that was sent out. You can access that survey/registration form here. Please note that if you do not complete the survey, your child will automatically be enrolled to return to in-person learning. Additionally, here is a link to the District FAQs, which provides a lot of information for families for making your decision. For your reference, here is a timeline.

We will host an information session for families on Friday, January 15 at 8:00am and again on Thursday, January 21 at 5:30pm. This will be an opportunity for you to ask questions and to receive any additional information we have in order to make the most informed decision for you and your family. We will share a link to the meetings in emails and on our website.
